About Nayarit

FF1flipped 110pixsMuch of Firefighters Crossing Borders efforts have been focused in the southern area of the State of Nayarit.

The first mission was in 2010 in support of the Zachary Chambers Foundations efforts to improve emergency services in the small village of Sayulita, part of the Municipality of Bahia de Banderas.

Later that year, we established an onsite regional representative who had been working with the areas firefighters sense 2008. With support from a newly elected Municipal President and assistance from community groups the Bahia Fire EMS Project has resulted in the opening of new fire stations, improved equipment, and better firefighter training.

Fire departments from other areas in the State have also received training and equipment donations.

Sayulita Lifeguard Tower dedicated (2)

on . Posted in Nayarit

On Feb 26th 2018 the first of four lifeguard towers was dedicated on the north beach of Sayulita, Nayarit. The tower was funded by Groupo Sayulita, designed and built by Cyd Viator of Phoenix AZ using 100% recycled plastic.

FFCB is working with Protection Civil to add additional towers to the remaining beaches of Bahia de Banderas

The four Sayulita lifeguard towers will remain the property of Groupo Pro Sayulita and Protection Civil received approvals from the Federal authorities to place them on the beaches. They will also hire more lifeguards and support the local vo lunteer lifeguard program.

The first tower was dedicated in memory of all who have lost their lives on the north beach, and specifically, Zack Chambers, Mark Stoneberg, and Diego Ramos, three drownings that have occurred since 2010.

Firefighters Crossing Borders members and the Zack Chambers Foundation began working to improve emergency services in Sayulita after the tragic death of a Zack Chambers in 2010. Over the years FFCB’s instructors have trained well over a hundred volunteer lifeguards for the areas beaches.

In 2012 FFCB partnered with Groupo Pro Sayulita a Sayulita non-provide focused on improving life in Sayulita. Together with local government officials we continue working on beach safety.

Firefighters Crossing Boarders is coordinating another lifeguard training event for March 13 & 14 in preparation for the Easter crowds.

Thanks to all who have helped make and will continue to make the beaches of Bahia de Banderas a safer place.
